Mthatha, Eastern Cape -

Police were on Tuesday investigating the deaths of two men found in separate areas of Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.

Constable Mzukisi Fatyela said the body of a 65-year-old man was found in his Zimbane home.

“His younger brother was able to identify the badly burnt body,” said Fatyela.

The house caught alight late on Monday evening. The body was retrieved in the early hours of Tuesday. It remained unclear what caused the blaze.

“An inquest docket has been opened, and we are not ruling out foul play.”

In the second case, the badly decomposed body of a man was found by locals in a veld in Bukwini, near Nqeleni. The unidentified man was believed to be in his 30s.

“Parts of his body had already been eaten by dogs. We think he had been there for a week or so.”

Police had not ruled out murder.

“We are unsure whether the man died there or if he was killed somewhere else and dumped there.”

No form of identification was found on the victim. - Sapa
