Muldersdrift, West Rand - Police efforts to curb crime in Mulderdrift on the West Rand are bearing fruit, Gauteng acting police commissioner Maj-Gen Phumzo Gela said on Wednesday.
Controlling the main entrances to the area had contributed to this, he told reporters in Muldersdrift.
Additional flying squad vehicles had also been deployed on roads such as the N14 highway and Beyers Naude Drive.
This has led to a “relatively quiet Muldersdrift”.
“The reduction of crime speaks volumes,” Gela said.
“The communities that are complaining say the people who are committing crimes are not from Muldersdrift... It's either Diepsloot or other, neighbouring squatter camps.”
No statistics were available on a decrease in crime, but Gela said the arrests made and progress on some “major cases” indicated a decline. - Sapa
