Pretoria - A police constable’s attempt to evade police was short-lived after he was arrested hours after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend and her alleged lover.
The 27-year-old fled Pretoria in a state vehicle after the incident but was arrested in Potgietersrus, Limpopo, by the Mokopane Highway Patrol after a lookout for the vehicle was given.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said the trouble started on Thursday night, when the constable visited the house of a 21-year-old woman and found her with another man.
“An argument ensued which resulted to the constable assaulting the man.
On Friday morning the situation ended in tragedy for the two victims when the constable returned to the woman’s house and after another heated argument, shot and killed the victims after which he fled.
Mokopane Highway Patrol pulled him off the road near the Zebediela tollgate. They took his service pistol.
The constable was due to appear in court on Monday on charges of murder.
