Murdered teen’s identity a mysteryComment on this story
Cape Town - Police and community leaders were still battling today to establish the identity of the teenage girl found murdered in a disused building.
Around 10am on Wednesday, the body of the 16-year-old was discovered in Lower Station Road, Maitland.
“The deceased was found wearing black shorts, and a pink and white striped top. She sustained injuries to the head,” reported police spokesman Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana. A person at the scene said the girl was found in a disused building next to the railway line.
A murder docket has been opened and the girl had not yet been identified by police at publication time today.
Maitland Community Police Forum chair Charnell Southgate told the Cape Argus: “We have heard she may be from Observatory, but that’s a big place. We are also not sure whether she was murdered there, or murdered elsewhere and dumped there.”
