More people are disappearing without a trace in the city.

University of Pretoria student Duncan Allan, 22, is still missing and police say their leads so far have left them empty-handed.

Now Ryan Abdo, 31, has also vanished and his family are in a desperate search for him.

Abdo is the third person to disappear in less than a month.

Earlier, Gerrie van Rensburg, the son of Dominee Jacie van Rensburg, moderator of the NG Church in the Western Transvaal, was allegedly kidnapped but later found in the boot of his car in Waltloo.

Duncan’s father, Tim Allan, said the family still had not heard anything from him. “We don’t know what has happened to our son.”

Brooklyn police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Annabel Middelton said police were still investigating, but there had not been any new leads lately.

“We are still monitoring phone calls, but at this stage we have no new leads to follow,” she said.

Asked if there might be a drug link to the disappearance, Middelton said: “We cannot confirm or exclude the possibility. We will be looking into all possibilities as we continue with our investigations.”

André Snyman, founder of eBlockwatch, also said there was no new information on Allan’s whereabouts. A video has been posted on YouTube where family members describe Duncan’s car.

“Over 10 000 people have seen the video, but we still don’t have anything. We have been getting calls about car sightings, but they have not been of Duncan’s car,” Snyman said.

Ryan Abdo disappeared on July 31 and has not been seen since.

His mother, Alta, said he left their Montana home and went to Pretoria North to see his cousin’s wife, a pharmacist.

She feared her son might have taken sleeping tablets and then wandered and been abducted. Ryan and the cousin’s wife were both said to be suffering from insomnia and he had gone to get sleeping tablets.

His mother said she only reported him missing on Tuesday at the Garsfontein police station after calling all his friends who told her they had not seen or heard from him.

“He has a flat in Mooikloof which he had to clear out and he has not done that. His clothes are still in the house and his phone is off.”

Ryan drives a beige Mazda 323, 1984 model with registration KTY 546 GP. He has a dragon tattoo on his left shoulder. Those with information on him can call the Garsfontein police station at 012 470 4200 or Missing Children SA at 072 647 7464. - Pretoria News
