Cape Town - He was last seen in his silver Hyundai Getz, and on Thursday a helicopter and a large search and rescue team set out for Table Mountain to look for the 25-year-old man from Fish Hoek.

Western Cape health department EMS/AMS rescue helicopter, EMS, Sanparks teams and wilderness search and rescue were among the teams that scoured the mountain after his vehicle was found parked on Table Mountain Road.

Wilderness search and rescue (WSAR) spokesman Johann Marais said they would continue with the search until “they come up with something”.

“He is very well-known in the climbing and mountaineering fraternity and we have found out what paths he frequents and have focused our search on those.”

The man was last seen on Tuesday and reported missing by his family on Thursday, Marais said.

“We have been having discussions with his family to find out more specifics about him, like finding out if he was unhappy, to be able to know what to look for.”

Marais added that the man was reported missing at the Muizenberg police station by his family and they were helping in the search.

“We will look for as long as the weather allows and as long as we think the teams are under no immediate danger. The chopper may stop because of darkness, but we will continue after it has stopped.”

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said police had joined in the search and added that the vehicle was found early on Thursday morning.

“The vehicle was found parked but abandoned, the police initiated an integrated search with Table Mountain National Park Rangers, Metro Rescue, SkyNet Helicopter rescue team and two ground patrollers with the missing person’s friends.”

Air Mercy Rescue (AMS) spokeswoman Vanessa Horn said the helicopter went out twice on Thursday and the search will resume today. “It had to come back to refuel.”
