Cape Town - A man has appeared in the Philipstown Magistrate's Court for illegal possession of perlemoen (abalone), Northern Cape police said on Thursday.

Muhamed Saleem appeared on Wednesday and was told to return on September 3, said Lt-Col Donald Mdhluli.

He said police recovered black plastic bags filled with perlemoen near a township on Tuesday.

After obtaining a warrant and further information, police found more perlemoen inside the fridge of a home.
