N Cape MECs arrested for fraud

Two Northern Cape MECs and five other people were arrested in connection with fraud, corruption and money-laundering in Kimberley on Wednesday, the Hawks said.

“Two MECs, three officials from the SA Social Service Agency and two other people were busted by the Hawks this morning,” spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

“They were arrested on charges of fraud, corruption and money-laundering involving millions of rands, at their respective places of residence around Kimberley, and are expected to appear in court later today.”

Ramaloko said the arrest related to events between May 2005 to December 2009.

“I cannot release more details until they appear in court,” he added.

The seven are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Wednesday afternoon. - Sapa
