Johannesburg - A Namibian national was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of mandrax tablets estimated to be worth R400 000, the Ekurhuleni metro police said on Tuesday.

“Members of the EMPD followed up on a tip-off on Tuesday and located a courier vehicle with the illicit package. A Namibian driver was arrested,” said spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

The man, aged 46, was arrested in Boksburg and charged with possession of drugs.

Kgasago said the man claimed he was just a courier employee with instructions to transport the package from Boksburg to Namibia.

The man is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court soon.
