Cape Town - A Navy Special Forces officer is expected to appear in court on Thursday for the murder of a woman who was found dead in her freezer on a military base.

The 40-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday in Vredenberg after investigators followed information from the community.

The man was found in possession of some of the stolen items belonging to Bernadette Orphan, 40.

Bernadette’s missing Toyota was also found in Robertson on Monday.

The mom of three’s body was found by her teenage daughter in her house at Saldanha Military Base on March 3.

She had been home alone and was waiting for a friend to arrive.

Bernadette’s husband, who is a petty officer, had been away on training at the time.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says the suspect was traced to Vredenberg after people in Robertson linked him to the stolen Toyota.

The suspect is due to appear in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
