Durban - A 63-year-old doctor was found murdered in her luxury home in Durban, police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed that police had been called to the woman's home in Brown's Drift Road in Umgeni Park on Tuesday evening.

“On arrival at the scene the members found a body of a 63-year-old woman lying on the bedroom floor with head injuries,” he said. The local community newspaper, the Northglen News, reported that the woman was found with masking tape around her face and was discovered by a neighbour.

According to the newspaper, the Greenwood Park police station spokesman Warrant Officer Leon Audh said the woman had been seen last Thursday.

“A neighbour discovered her body after seeing the back door to her home opened. When he walked in, the doctor's body was in a state of decomposition. There was masking tape wrapped around her face,” he was quoted as saying.

Zwane said that the motive for the murder was unknown and a case of murder had been opened at the Greenwood Park police station.
