Newly appointed acting national police commissioner, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, announced a tough stance on crime on Thursday.

During his first media briefing in Pretoria, Mkhwanazi said as the new captain of the ship he would want to improve on the foundation laid by General Bheki Cele.

“We will meet fire with fire. If that is not clear to anyone, I challenge you to commit crime,” he said.

“I want to take this opportunity to warn the criminals out there that they will not enjoy the Diwali, Christmas, New Year or even Easter in this country.”

SAPS members would continue to carry out their duties with excellence and meet fire with fire in the fight against crime.
