Johannesburg - A newborn baby has been found alive in a bush in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said on Thursday.

“When ER24 paramedics, as well as other services, arrived on scene, they found a group of bystanders crowded around the young patient,” spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“Paramedics on scene immediately assessed the baby boy, finding no major injuries. After a brief assessment, the young patient was transported to RK Khan hospital for further treatment and observations.”

The bushy spot where the baby was found by road workers on Thursday was on Cliff Road.

A woman jogger assisted by wrapping the baby in a towel.

“The mother was not found on scene. Local authorities were on scene for investigations,” said Meiring.
