Valencia, Eastern Cape -

An Eastern Cape baby boy was found abandoned in the veld near Valencia in Addo on Wednesday morning, police said.

“Thorne Booysen, 14, and a friend went to fetch wood in the bush when they heard a baby crying. They followed the sound and discovered the child,” Lt-Col Priscilla Naidu said.

“The infant, believed to be a few hours old, was wrapped in a woman's dress and a T-shirt... The placenta and umbilical cord were still attached to the child.”

Naidu said the teenagers took the baby to the police. He was then taken to Sunday's Valley Hospital.
