Bloemfontein - A man in his late forties was shot dead in his car during a robbery in Bloemfontein on Monday afternoon, Free State police said.

The man, the owner of a newspaper stand, was apparently about to pay his employees at a park in the area, said Lt-Col Annelie Wrensch.

Four armed men shot him in the chest and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. He was declared dead on the scene, at the Harrismith and Aliwal roads intersection.
