The ANC Youth League in Limpopo will hold a night vigil for expelled league leader Julius Malema on Thursday night.

The vigil was expected to start at 9pm in Polokwane, ahead of Malema's court appearance on Friday, said African National Congress Youth League provincial spokesman Nono Mabunda.

He said the league in the province would continue supporting Malema, as agreed to months ago.

“The ANCYL Limpopo is aligned to its initial provincial executive committee meeting resolution to support the ANCYL president comrade Julius Malema in his court appearances,” said Mabunda in a statement.

On Monday, ANCYL acting president Ronald Lamola announced that the league would not organise rallies in support of Malema's court appearance.

“The ANC Youth League does not have a case to answer for, hence it cannot be party to the court case process,” said Lamola.

Mabunda, however, said the league in Limpopo was expecting supporters from all sub-regions to attend the vigil.

“These are arrangements which were made months before to ascertain compliance and shun deprecating criticism, which might have an intention to withdraw our support through instilling fear,” said Mabunda.

Following the night vigil, supporters were expected to picket outside the Polokwane Magistrate's Court. - Sapa
