Nine people were arrested in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Thursday afternoon for possession of illegal firearms, Western Cape police said.

“Three firearms were confiscated during two separate incidents,” Lt-Col Andrè Traut said.

The first saw a 15-year-old boy and his 61-year-old father arrested for possessing two illegal firearms. In the second case seven youths aged between 16 and 20 were arrested for being in possession of a stolen gun.

The arrests took place following violence in Hanover Park earlier on Thursday.

A 20-year-old man was shot and injured at 3.50am, several shots were fired at a police car at 9.50am, with no injuries reported, and a 55-year-old woman was injured after being shot at 1.40pm.

Police would continue to maintain a large presence in Hanover Park. - Sapa
