Johannesburg - EFF leader Julius Malema called on his charges to exercise maximum restraint after they stormed the Constitutional Court precinct where the Nkandla matter is being heard.

He also criticised the police's poor crowd control mechanisms, saying they had failed to heed his suggestions when he briefed them at 7 am.

“They say we came here and disturbed the work of the judges. Don't create unnecessary problems, comrades,” he told the EFF supporters.

He said “maximum cooperation” between them and the men and women in blue would lead to their march being peaceful.

Malema's deputy Floyd Shivambu said the first round of court proceedings had been finished, where the EFF gave “proper and convincing” arguments that the should ConCourt hear the matter as they had exhausted all other avenues.

He told supporters that he believed the “sober judges” would listen properly to the case, adding that the EFF would have notched up some major victories by the end of Tuesday.

“We want the Public Protector's powers to be affirmed,” Shivambu said.
