No one has been arrested as yet for the murder of a doctor killed in a car hijacking in Pretoria, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
Dr John Moche, a 41-year-old dermatologist at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, was shot and killed by hijackers on Friday night.
According to Rapport he was sitting in his Range Rover, outside a townhouse complex in Viljoen Street around 8.30pm and talking to a nurse who was a passenger in the car.
Two armed men opened the doors and pulled them both out. One of them shot Moche once in the chest. They fled with the car. It was later found abandoned in Atteridgeville. The nurse was unhurt.
Police had not yet arrested anyone for the crime, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said on Sunday.
The Gauteng health department said it was shocked by the murder. Health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe and department head Nomonde Xundu sent their condolences to Moche's family.
“We call on members of the community to assist the police in their investigations and ensuring that the perpetrators are arrested,” the MEC said.
Moche was mourned by his colleagues at the hospital, including CEO Dr Ernest Kenoshi. He described Moche as a hard working professional and good friend. - Sapa
