No bail for PE student's alleged rapists

Port Elizabeth – A 33-year-old man appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of rape and kidnapping.

He was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday morning in Walmer location.

It is alleged that during October last year, a 24-year-old student was lured by three suspects from a club in Central and taken to Walmer.

According to the woman she was taken to a flat where one of the suspects attempted to rape her. She then attempted to fight the man off who then called two other suspects to collect her from the flat.

According to the woman she was under the impression the two men would drive her back home but instead they drove to a bushy area along Victoria Drive where they both allegedly raped and assaulted her.

The men left her for dead in the bushes, however the woman managed to find her way back to Victoria Drive and was assisted by members of the public.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the case against the 33-year-old man was postponed to Friday.

In addition Naidu said that a 31-year-old man was denied bail on Thursday in connection with the alleged rape.

Naidu said he was arrested during November last year, and faces charges of rape, abduction and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The case against him was postponed until January 23. A third suspect is still at large.
