An alleged serial rapist facing several charges of raping university students in Limpopo was denied bail on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.

Zacharia Selowa, 22, was denied bail on one of 11 charges of rape he was facing at the Mankweng Regional Court, police spokesman Constable Moses Molepo said.

“Selowa was initially facing eight charges of rape, but three more cases were added while he was appearing in court,” said Molepo.

He would be back in the same court on March 25, 2013 for trial and his cases were expected to run simultaneously.

Selowa allegedly targeted female students between 2010 and 2011

from the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus who shopped at a nearby complex.

He would allegedly offer to carry their groceries and then lure them to a cemetery and rape them.

He was not a student, but lived at the Mamabolo Mentz village near the campus. - Sapa
