A man allegedly sjambokked his wife to death near Klipgat in the North West province, police said on Saturday.
Captain Pelonomi Makau said the man, aged between 50 and 60-years-old, handed himself over to police on Friday.
The incident took place in the village of Ikageng at 4am on Friday following an argument between the couple.
“When police arrived they found a sjambok and a pick axe handle next to the deceased. The suspect admitted to the police that he used both instruments to assault his wife,” Makau said.
The man will appear in the Ga-rankuwa Magistrate's Court on Monday. -Sapa

How disgusting! Is this how you treat a woman who you have had sexual relations with? Whatever this man's reasons there is no justification for this kind of punishment.

This is horribly sad! And, anyone who has no empathy for the woman or outrage for this cowardly crime is lower than the lowest life-form. It's disgusting that women are still being treated this way. I hope the punishment is going to fit the crime. Life in jail without parole for the so-called 'husband'.

this is what you get when you don’t respect your man. woman these days are full of it and they just don’t listen. I’m sure this poor man was being emotionally abused for a long time and he had enough and just lost it.

@ Ex.Pat....I dont know where it is you have emigrated to, but I'm in UK @ the moment & people are still disappearing like there's no tomorrow. Don't give the impression that wherever it is you have run away to is any better than SA. You just couldn't bottle the fact of being ruled by a Black man. I wonder why you keep reading SA news if you don't care about it.We have maneaters in Germany & a sharpshooter in Sweden recently. Paedophiles in UK & Sharpshooters in American schools. I'm not condemning SA crime by all means, I just hate it when people give the impression that these crimes are not happening anywhere else. I know the scales and types are not the same, but every country has itd own problems and I agree that our government needs to act swiftly to redress the situation.@ Anonymous....You are right when you say the problem is not the man as such, but the whole aspect of how our society perceives these types of crimes. The fact that the apartheid government was funding and spearheading the massacre of innocent people does not make the situation any easier. Our previous government has desensitised people's feelings and emotions with the scale of killings of Black people coerced killings, beatings as their everyday living. This is a serious problem that needs attending to and pointing fingers is not gonna help ease the situation.

This is not about this man. Yes it is wrong, but what is even more wrong, is how Society, our Government has let so many people so very down. This is about hate into a far bigger system- and it shows this hate into the roots of life - at family level. Blame the man - sure - also question what is behind it, socio-economic, politics, and not the man alone. It is about time we face reality. Our country (South Africa) is in a downward spiral. Agree?

The sanctity of human life clearly is diminishing by the second. Not to mention respect and love to a women. I Suggest ZA needs the death penalty re-instated. Who knows maybe just a few examples would minimize such behaviour in the future. ZA - Citizen
