Johannesburg - Five women were allegedly raped in the North West province over the weekend, police said on Sunday.

Captain Pelonomi Makau said a 47-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

It is believed the man gained entry to the girl's house through an unlocked door before he allegedly raped her, Makau said.

“The man is known to the girl as well as her family.”

He will appear in the Schweizre-Reneke Magistrate's Court on Monday.

On Saturday, police arrested a 54-year-old grandfather in Delareyville who is accused of raping his 13-year-old granddaughter while alone with her at a family home.

“The grandfather faces a charge of rape and will appear in the Delareyville Magistrate's Court on Monday,” said Makau.

Meanwhile, five armed men were sought by the police for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman near the Imperial Reserve on Saturday.

“The men confronted the woman and her friend before dragging them into nearby bushes. The friend managed to escape while the woman was raped.”

Makau said a 17-year-old girl was stabbed in her head and arm at her house, in Khuma near Stilfontein, on Saturday, by two unknown men before they allegedly took turns to rape her.

No arrests have been made and the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital.

On Friday, a 66-year-old woman from Taung was confronted outside her house by a man known to her.

“The man grabbed her before raping her on the floor,” Makau said.

He said the man fled the scene and is still at large. - Sapa
