North West to set up corruption task teamComment on this story
The North West government is to establish a special task team to expedite corruption cases in the province, the premier's office said on Thursday.
The announcement was made during premier Thandi Modise's budget speech to the provincial legislature in Mahikeng earlier on Thursday, spokesman Lesiba Moses Kgwele said in a statement.
Modise said decisive action would be taken against departments which did not conclude cases within the stipulated time frames, or did not follow due process.
The provincial government would put in place a special training programme to create a sufficient pool of presiding officers to deal with the backlog of disciplinary cases.
“There seems to be a trend of collusion and public servants doing business with the government, and (these) matters cannot be tolerated any further,” Modise said.
The team would be led by the director general within the premier's office, and comprise officials from the forensic management and misconduct unit, labour relations, and legal services.
The team would compile a list of all cases and provide the provincial executive committee, and the premier, with quarterly reports. – Sapa
