Johannesburg - A liquidation case against the ANC Youth League was postponed in the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.
Judge Boissie Mbha postponed the case to March 24 after a hotel brought a fresh court application against the beleaguered ANCYL.
A hotel, trading as Palanquin Hospitality Management and based in Bloemfontein, is claiming R1.5 million from ANCYL.
“My client had thought of taking a different route, but decided to bring our own application today (Monday),” said Palanquin legal representative, advocate Steven van Rensburg, outside court.
The original liquidation order against the league was applied for by Bloemfontein events company, Z2 Presentations, who had originally been tasked with running ANCYL's 2008 national conference in the Free State.
The conference left the company R15m out of pocket after the league did not pay its bill.
Palanquin, which is in liquidation, provided accommodation for the conference delegates.
“Our application was not opposed by the ANCYL. Their lawyers said they would argue that our application has no basis,” said Van Rensburg.
The league had planned to bring its members and supporters to picket outside court on Monday, but cancelled the picketing. - Sapa
