Durban - Sharks hooker Kyle Cooper has laid counter-charges against the father and daughter who charged him with assault after an incident at a Bluff bar in March.

This emerged on Thursday when Cooper appeared briefly before Magistrate Jackie Jonck in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

His attorney, Jacques Botha, said it was in his client’s interests for the case to be adjourned until June 1 to allow the senior public prosecutor to make a decision on the way forward with both cases.

He said the J88 document – the record of the medical examinations detailing any injuries – was also outstanding.

Cooper, who is on bail of R500, has appeared in court three times.

He is charged with common assault, the complainant being 19-year-old Camilla Johannessen, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, a charge relating to her 42-year-old father, Donald Johannessen.

The incidents took place at the Wagon Wheel Saloon in Lighthouse Road. It is alleged Cooper struck Camilla after a verbal altercation in the venue and then assaulted her father, who confronted him outside.

Botha on Thursday confirmed that the counter-charges were of assault and had been laid against both father and daughter.
