Durban - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will not reinstate VAT fraud charges against businesswoman Shauwn Mpisane.

This follows the recent uncertainty as to whether the NPA would reinstate her case after charges against advocate Meera Naidu, a member of the Public Servants Association of South Africa, were dropped.

Naidu was accused of prosecutorial misconduct after Mpisane’s defence team complained that Naidu had withheld documents and misled the court.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions in KZN, advocate Moipone Noko, the charges against the Mpisanes would not be reinstated.

Mpisane and her company, Zikhulise Cleaning, Maintenance and Transport CC, were initially charged in the Durban Regional Court with 119 counts mainly of tax fraud involving R4.7 million.
