Durban - Thieves who stole a rental company’s Toyota Quantum van thought they were in the clear after partially stripping the vehicle and deactivating the tracking device.
But they didn’t count on there being a second tracking device. Its signal led police to an alleged chop shop in Ntuzuma.
The van was stolen on Saturday on the Berea area.
The SAPS provincial vehicle task team, metro police and tracking company Tracker found the van and two other stripped cars behind a house in Ntuzuma’s B-section on Monday. The police are trying to locate the owner of the house.
They found Toyota Hilux parts stacked at the back of the house. A resprayed Hilux bakkie, stolen in the Berea area last month was also allegedly found.
The vehicles and parts were taken to the iSipingo pound.
Spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said two cases of motor vehicle theft had been opened at the Berea station.
