Rustenburg - North West premier Thandi Modise has lauded the decision to deny bail to three men charged with the murder of an NUM leader in Marikana near Rustenburg.
The Tlhabane Magistrate's Court ruled on Thursday that the men, aged between 33 and 37, remain in custody until their next court appearance on October 31.
Modise said on Friday the decision was a step towards restoring peace and stability in the area.
“The spate of senseless killings in the area is alarming and it is important that thorough investigation is done to unmask the perpetrators,” Modise said in a statement.
National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) chairman William Setelele, 46, was shot eight times and killed in the Nkaneng informal settlement last week.
The three were arrested in Wonderkop extension two, Nkaneng, on Tuesday.
