A male nurse accused of raping a patient suffering from depression appeared in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court on Thursday, North West police said.

The case was postponed until April 5, said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

“The court is still waiting for DNA tests,” he said.

The 24-year-old nurse apparently called the patient from the television room to the linen room at a Potchefstroom hospital on January 19.

The patient followed him because she thought he was going to give her medicine.

The SABC reported that the nurse had been found guilty of the crime in a disciplinary process and had been fired. - Sapa
