The trial of a Free State male nurse accused of raping a terminally ill cancer patient will get underway in October in the Bloemfontein High Court.

The nurse faces two counts of rape.

The 33-year-old man appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. His case was postponed for trial in the high court on October 10.

The nurse was arrested after the woman claimed to have been raped during a night shift at the National Hospital in Bloemfontein.

The 50-year-old woman's husband told police the attack happened on October 15, 2011.

The patient, who has since died, could not identify a woman nurse whom she claimed held her down while she was raped.

The man is out on bail. – Sapa
