Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education official has been arrested for allegedly selling official state vehicles.

The department official is suspected of being part of a syndicate privately selling official state vehicles that are supposed to be sold on auction.

Announcing the arrest on Thursday, MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane said the official had been suspended.

The organised crime unit made the arrest after allegations emerged that the official was working with car dealers in this syndicate. The arrest of other officials, also suspected of being involved, is imminent.

“We have zero tolerance for corruption in this department,” Dlungwane said.
