Johannesburg - Murder-accused Oscar Pistorius’s lawyers have been told that the athlete may face two more charges, a report has said.
According to eNCA, the National Prosecuting Authority intends to charge Pistorius with two counts of recklessly discharging a weapon.
Pistorius is facing a murder charge after shooting and killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day earlier this year.
The extra charges relate to two incidents – one of which came up during his bail hearing – in which the athlete fired a weapon in public.
The first incident happened in a restaurant when Pistorius accidentally fired a shot under the table while inspecting a friend’s firearm.
The second incident, friends allege, relates to Pistorius firing a shot in the air through the sunroof of a car.
Pistorius will on Monday – on Steenkamp’s 30th birthday – again appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court when he is expected to be served with the indictment.
The trial date for the high-profile case has been set for February 24 to March 14 next year. – IOL
