Johannesburg - Paralympian Oscar Pistorius' murder trial topped media focus in the past 24 hours despite the trial having adjourned, figures by media monitoring group DDI showed on Wednesday.
“In the past 24 hours, DDI has measured the news media surrounding Marikana versus the Oscar Pistorius' trial,” Data Driven Insight said.
“The percentages are astonishing, when you think of the enormity of the Marikana incident and the impact it has had on SA as a brand across the world.”
Pistorius' trial adjourned on Tuesday and would be back in the High Court in Pretoria on Friday.
Media coverage of the trial was at 78.43 percent, while the Farlam Commission of Inquiry came in at 21.57 percent.
The star athlete has been charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and contravening the Firearms Control Act.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Farlam Commission of Inquiry, chaired by retired Judge Ian Farlam, is investigating the circumstances surrounding 44 deaths at Lonmin's platinum mining operations at Marikana, near Rustenburg in North West during strike-related unrest in August 2012.
The DDI said the ANC Women's League, which had been supporting the Steenkamp family in court, has appeared in the media reporting of the trial.
“This has been because they have confronted June Steenkamp 1/8Reeva's mother 3/8 during the trial so far,” the survey indicated.
The ANCWL appears in over one in three articles that relates to Reeva's mother, June.
