Over 100 nabbed in Soweto

Johannesburg - Over 100 people were arrested in Soweto and the surrounding areas at the weekend, police said on Sunday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said 118 people had been arrested since Friday in Lenasia, Dobsonville, Naledi, Protea Glen, Moroka and Jabulani.

“Some of the arrests include 38 for drunk driving, two for rape, one for murder, 13 for possession of dagga and 30 for shoplifting,” he said.

Others were for malicious damage to property, theft, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault.

Makhubela said they would appear in the Protea, Roodepoort, Lenasia and Vereeniging magistrates' courts on Monday. - Sapa
