Durban - Two men accused of killing an elderly couple and robbing them of their pension money have appeared in the Camperdown Magistrate's Court, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

Bhekizwe Mabaso and Nhlanhla Mbhele, both 28, appeared on two counts of murder and robbery on Wednesday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

They would appear in court again on December 18.

Mfanlo Mkhize, 79, and Zamekile Ngidi, 63, were found hanged in their house in Swayimane, near Pietermaritzburg, on October 20. Police discovered that money and a shotgun belonging to Mkhize were missing from the house.

“The couple was last seen on October 17 at a pension payout point in the area,” Zwane said.

A neighbour found their bodies. When Mabaso and Mbhele were arrested on Monday police recovered a shotgun, believed to be taken during the attack. - Sapa
