Kimberley – Two men have been sentenced to seven years behind bars for raping a 20-year-old man, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.

The Kimberley Regional Court convicted 28-year-old Shawn September and co-accused Brendon Hugo, 25, of the December 13, 2014 attack.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said the victim was dragged into a shack in Greenpoint, Kimberley, where the two men took turns raping him.

“The 20-year-old managed to escape from the hands of the rapists and reported the matter to the police,” Tawana said.

The victim identified the two men and they were immediately arrested.

Kimberley Cluster Commander Major General Jean Abraham commended the investigation team and welcomed the seven-year sentence.
