North West - A Mmakau, North West, resident who confessed to the murder and kidnapping of 11-year-old Ofentse Mogale will have to serve the remaining 11 years of his 27-year jail term after his parole was revoked at the weekend.
The 41-year-old Strike Paulos Thulare’s freedom was short-lived after he was arrested for the alleged murder and kidnapping of Ofentse 10 days ago, following the discovery of her body in a shallow grave under a bed in his shack, east of Brits.
Thulare was released on parole in November 2011 after being sentenced in 1997 for the murder and rape of a Brits woman.
His actions outraged a group of Mmakau village residents who on Tuesday protested outside the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court, where he was to apply for bail.
Police spokeswoman Captain Amanda Funani said his case was postponed to April 8 for further investigations, and Thulare would remain in custody.
North West police spokesman Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said representations by the police were made to his parole officer over the weekend and his parole was revoked.
“He will now continue serving the remainder of his 27-year sentence, and should he be found guilty of the charges against him, the sentence will be added to his current time,” he explained.
Thulare faces charges of kidnapping as well as murder. He has yet to plead.
It was earlier reported that several used condoms, along with earrings, watches, as well as a pair of pants with holes cut in the private parts area, were found in Thulare’s shack.
It is alleged that he broke into Ofentse’s mother’s home on the night of February 2 and snatched her from her bed where she was sleeping next to her nine-year-old sibling Neo.
It was reported that Thulare confessed to Ofentse’s murder shortly after his arrest. He told the police that he had kidnapped her, shoved a facecloth in her mouth to prevent her from screaming and then strangled her.
Ofentse’s body was found with her underwear around one leg, and a post-mortem will confirm whether she was raped.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old girl was raped in a park in Ganyesa village in North West at the weekend.
Funani said the young girl was raped while playing alone in a park near her home on Saturday.
She said the rapist left the child in the park after raping her.
According to Funani, the girl’s grandmother noticed that she was struggling to walk.
She was taken to a nearby clinic for a medical examination, and it was confirmed she had been raped.
Funani said no one has been arrested.
