Durban - A convicted armed robber recently released on parole has been arrested for last month’s murder of Waterfall father, Jacques Oosthuizen.

The robber served 11 years of his 18-year prison sentence before he was released on parole in March.

His accomplice, also a convicted armed robber, is still on the run.

Members of the SAPS Durban organised crime unit swooped on the suspect’s Molweni home in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police seized several stolen cellphone SIM cards as well as jewellery and electronic equipment. A Toyota Yaris that was hijacked outside a clinic in Newlands West was also recovered in the yard.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Police sources said the arrest of the second suspect was imminent.

Oosthuizen, 35, a father of two, suffered a massive heart attack and died, three days after he was stabbed and shot during a robbery at his Braeside Road home.

His wife, Samantha, and their children, Claudia, 15, and Storm, 10, were battling to come to terms with his death.

The family, who have since fled their home and are living with a relative, said they had no plans to return.

Two weeks ago, police arrested three suspects linked to at least eight recent armed robberies in the Outer West area.

They described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the fight against crime in the area.

The suspects were described as “hardened and dangerous”, with no care for human life. They were known to shoot, stab and assault their victims.

The trio are facing various charges including the murder of Ashley grandfather, Hendrik Potgieter, 78, and Waterfall resident, Rodney Bradley.
