PE gangster wanted for murder hands himself over to cops

Port Elizabeth – A 21-year-old Port Elizabeth gang member who was wanted on a murder charge has handed himself over to police, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the suspect presented himself to investigators at the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit on Wednesday afternoon. Naidu said the young man was wanted in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Randy Van Reenen, who as gunned down on Sunday afternoon outside a house in Libra Street in Gelvandale.

"According to police information, Van Reenen was standing outside the house smoking with two other people. They noticed the two suspects who are known to them approach them. Van Reenen then went inside the house. The suspects stood at the gate and called out to Van Reenen. Van Reenen went outside and an argument ensued whereby one of the suspect’s pulled out a firearm and shot Van Reenen in his head," said Naidu.

Van Reenen died on the scene while the two suspects fled on foot. The deceased and the suspect are affiliated to the Sestien Honde gang. Naidu said the motive for the murder is suspected to be internal conflict within the gang. The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Friday.
