Port Elizabeth - A Port Elizabeth man briefly appeared in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, in connection with the fatal hit-and-run accident of a four-year-old boy.

Curtis Felkers from Windvogel appeared on several charges which include culpable homicide, failing to stop after an accident, failing to render assistance, reckless and negligent driving and driving a motor vehicle without a valid drivers licence.

Felkers was released on bail of R5 000.

Over the weekend a four-year-old boy was dragged to his death following a fatal hit-and-run accident in Port Elizabeth’s Northern Areas.

Police Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the boy was killed in Bloemendal on Sunday night.

“According to police information, at about 5:45pm the child’s mother was getting into a taxi at the corner of Bergins and Bardiem Street when a blue jumbo Golf, travelling at a high speed collided into the child,” said Naidu.

The child was dragged a few metres before the vehicle sped off without stopping.

According to eyewitnesses, there were two men and a woman in the car who were reportedly on their home from a funeral.

The case was postponed to October 13.
