Port Elizabeth – Port Elizabeth police in the Eastern Cape have arrested two suspects after a 28-year-old man was gunned down and left for dead in the city's northern areas.

Alex Ferreira, who was said to be affiliated with the Preston Shaw Boys, was shot and killed on Tuesday afternoon.

His body was found in Bantam Street in Bethelsdorp. He had sustained several gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team were on patrol when they responded to a call of shots being fired.

She said a white VW Golf was parked in front of a house and one person, a 28-year-old, was found dead at the scene. Two gang members, aged 25 and 26, were arrested within minutes of the incident.

They are expected to appear in court on Thursday on charges of murder and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
