A church elder is behind bars after he allegedly took pictures of young girls’ genitals.

The cleric was arrested after one girl told her mom a man was going around offering kiddies sweets. But after handing over the candy, the “man of God” allegedly ordered the children to open their legs so he could photograph their private parts.

The 40-year-old man was bust inside his tin shack, where he lives alone in Makhaza, in Khayelitsha, on Sunday afternoon.

The Apostolic Church elder also appeared before the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court earlier this week where he was charged with sexually grooming children.

He is lucky to still be alive after a gang of angry parents armed with pangas and sticks descended on his shack, baying for blood.

The Daily Voice has learned the church man allegedly targeted girls as young as eight and nine years old and tried to lure them into his shack with promises of sweets and money.

One of the kids’ parents, who cannot be identified to protect her child, was at home when two of her neighbours gave her the news.

The concerned neighbours told her that one of her daughter’s friends had reported that photos are being taken of their genitals by a man.

“When I went out, there were people outside the house,” says the mom.

“My daughter told me that she was playing with her friends when the man called them inside his house before offering some sweets.

“She told me that he told them to open their legs while he took pictures of their genitals.

“We respected him because he is a church elder.”

Another parent, who also cannot be named, recalls how the pervert targeted three little girls on one occasion.

“They told the parents that the man gave them sweets and would tell them to undress while he took pictures with his cellphone,” she says.

“We will make sure that he doesn’t come back here.”

The suspect’s neighbour Patrick Geju, 54, says he spoke to the man an hour before he was nearly attacked.

“He always preaches to me about Christ and tells me to stop drinking, you would be convinced he is a man of God,” he says.
