Cape Town - A woman found her elderly husband dead in the Great Brak River, near George, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

“Great Brak River opened a murder docket for investigation following the death of 76-year-old Ronald Wiggett earlier this week at his residence at Die Eiland, Great Brak River,” said Captain Malcolm Pojie.

His body was found early on Monday morning with stab wounds to his leg and the back of his head, Pojie said.

His wife had apparently gone to look for him after he failed to bring her a cup of tea.

“She alerted police who reacted swiftly but the victim had already passed on when they arrived at the scene.”

The house had been ransacked.

Investigators arrested and interrogated a suspect, 57, at his house in Great Brak River on Tuesday.

Blood-stained clothes were found at his house and sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The man was released on Thursday.

The murder investigation continues.
