Former Gauteng commissioner General Mzwandile Petros was one of a number of top police officers who rogue cops wanted to kill.
This was the claim by a State witness in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Warrant Officer Abe Montoedi was testifying in the conspiracy to murder case of Warrant Officer Samuel Maruping of the Organised Crime Unit in Germiston.

General Johan Booysens of the Hawks, Colonel Abednego Shibiri – an investigator in top cop Major-General Tirhani Maswanganyi’s case – and a General Nonkonyane
in its sights.
Shibiri was on the hit list because he had opposed bail in the murder case of Maswanganyi, but it was not known why they wanted to kill the others.
Maruping and his co-accused, Warrant Officer Simon Msibi, who is attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit, allegedly planned Shibiri’s murder and recruited two others to kill the senior officer for money.
Msibi has previous convictions for corruption, attempted murder and drunken driving.
However, one of the recruits allegedly informed the police about the plan, Montoedi said in court on Wednesday.
The informer, who cannot be identified, was once convicted of murder and received a 32-year sentence.
The other recruit, Simphiwe Ndakana, also had previous convictions and is implicated in Maswanganyi’s murder.
He had since entered into a plea bargain with the State on that case, Montoedi said.
