Johannesburg - Two Pick n Pay employees were arrested after allegedly tampering with a meat scale in a shop in Heidelberg, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
The men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested on Tuesday afternoon, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said.
Tshilate said a meat scale operator allegedly weighed chicken pieces valued at R25.22 in the presence of a floor manager, but re-weighed the chicken when the manager left.
“Whilst the floor manager was away, he noticed the meat scale operator re-weighing the chicken meat and handing it over to the other employee who went to the teller machine and pay for the meat,” Tshilate said.
When the floor manager looked at the teller slip the meat was priced a R12.48.
“He requested him to re-weigh the meat and the meat was priced at R25.22, the amount that he had seen being weighed.”
Tshilate said the police were called and the men were arrested.
The men are expected to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court soon.
