PICS: W Cape’s 10 most wanted criminals

Western Cape police have announced they are hunting the province’s “30 most-wanted” criminals, using a systematic new strategy.

Provincial spokesman FC van Wyk announced on Thursday they had launched the campaign on May 20, and ran the “Most Wanted” list on a rolling basis, with new names of sought criminals added as people were arrested.

“The project is spearheaded by the provincial head of detectives, Major-General David Molo, who is supported by a project team. The team has responsibility to manage eight project centres throughout the Western Cape in areas such as the Cape Metropole, George, Oudtshoorn, Worcester, Paarl, Vredenburg and Vredendal.

“The focus is to apprehend 30 of the most-wanted suspects sought in connection with armed robberies, murder, theft of motor vehicles, housebreaking and theft, intimidation, assault and bribery. These crimes were committed in areas such as Grabouw, Lwandle, Mbekweni, Nyanga, Harare, Cape Town Central and Kuils River,” Van Wyk said.

Police released the details of 10 most wanted suspects on Thursd ay, whose names appeared on the Top 30 list:

* Lindela Mohale, 34, for rape committed in Bredasdorp in May 2012.

* Moegamat van der Schyff, 36, for theft committed in Bellville in November 2012.

* Ndumiso Mahlangabeza, 35, for murder in Elands Bay in February 2003.

* Nohimhi Arosi, 37, for possession of drugs in Nyanga in August 2003.

* Simphiwe Puza, 32, for armed robbery in Sea Point in August 2008.

* Stompie Lukhanji, 37, for murder in Philadelphia in August 2010.

* Thabiso Ntshene, 37, for murder in Malmesbury in July 2009.

* Ayanda Kaleni, 34, for assault in Wynberg in February 2010.

* Petrus Bernardus, 59, for fraud and forgery committed since 1999.

* Keith Africa, 35, for rape in Stellenbosch in September 2011.
