Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar was expected to return to the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday on an assault charge.

Pienaar is accused of kicking and punching Thabang Mnisi, the son of Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister Ayanda Dlodlo at a nightclub in Sandton, Johannesburg, in June.

In his last court appearance in July, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder denied attacking Mnisi.

“I did not assault the complainant,” Pienaar's lawyer Cliff Alexander told the court.

“I admit I was present at the club that night, but I did not assault anyone.”

Pienaar was released on a warning. - Sapa
