Meadowlands police are pleading with readers to help them track down Jabu Linda Khumalo, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a missing teenage girl.

According to police spokesman Constable Sibusiso Chauke, Khumalo, 34, was the last person seen with Mbali Nkosi, of Dube, on July 20, 2011, when she went missing.

Chauke said a warrant of arrest was issued for Khumalo after he failed to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court last year on a rape charge. “We are requesting residents, or anyone who has seen him, to come forward.”

Mbali, who would have celebrated her 16th birthday on February 7, had left home to buy meat at a supermarket in Dube.

Her mother Zodwa was the last person to hear Mbali’s voice after she had sent a “please call me” message. Mbali said “Mama…”, and then the phone was cut off. She has not been heard of or seen since.

According to Mbali’s father, Edwin Magwai, 37, the family had received numerous calls informing them about his daughter’s whereabouts. “We were told she had been sighted in Bramfischerville, Vosloorus, and Dube hostel. When we visited the places, we could not find her, but I’m confident she is out there somewhere.”

Anyone with information is requested to contact the Meadowlands police station on 011936 1199, Captain Harry Mosemola on 076 675 7435 or Lieutenant Moeketsi November on 071 675 7437. - The Star
