Johannesburg - Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela has not kept up with maintenance payments for two of his children.

According to the mother of the children, whose name is known to The Star, the former journalist and author has failed to pay his R2 500 monthly payment for September.

The mother said she previously struggled to get the full amount from Polela, who recently published a book entitled My Father, My Monster.

Polela’s former girlfriend said he had failed to pay the full maintenance amounts for January and July too.

“He paid R1 000 in January, and in July he was able to pay only R2 000 instead of R2 500. The money he pays contributes to both their school fees,” said the mother.

“My duty… is to make sure that they go to bed fed and that they have clothes.

“He has a responsibility to contribute to their lives. I’m doing my part.”

She said she had called Polela several times last week regarding the issue.

“He told me he was in Port Elizabeth.

“When I called for the second time, he said he didn’t have money, telling me that he was a father again,” the mother said.

Polela is now the father of six children, including her two.

The woman has now requested that the DA, which currently has a child maintenance campaign, to help her.

She said she had been sent from pillar to post at the maintenance courts.

DA MPL Patricia Mokgohlwa confirmed that the party was helping in the case.

Polela refused to comment when The Star contacted him on Tuesday afternoon. - The Star
